Sweet Tea
Someone once asked what you would get if you asked for something else to drink
in Georgia if you didn’t ask for sweet tea with your meal. The answer
is: “A funny look”. Some folk, who do not enjoy the privilege
of living in the South, are just not real sure what Sweet Tea is. It’s
brewed tea that is dosed with a liberal supply of sugar and served ice cold,
summer and winter, throughout restaurants, diners, bars and fine and not so
fine eateries throughout the South. Generally served with a slice of lemon,
some folk will ask for it unsweetened and dump in a couple of packs of artificial
sweetener, cutting calories so they can wash down a wholesome serving of banana
pudding.
It doesn’t
take much Sweet Georgia Belle to make Sweet Tea taste just grand. A “nervous”
tablespoonful or so, ( if the hand is shaking and a little extra is spilled,
that’s ok) is all that is needed. Refreshing as “all gitout”,
Georgia Sweet Tea is a wonderful surprise.
